CDL testing components and what to bring with you
The test itself consists of three components: (1) a thorough pre-trip inspection, (2) three basic control skills exercises and (3) an on-the-road driving evaluation.
Drivers attempting their CDL test must present these three pieces of information at the time of the test:
- Michigan Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) issued by and at the Secretary of State office
- A valid DOT medical card
- A valid Michigan photo driver’s license
DOT road testing and what to bring with you
Furthermore, DOT road testing is available separately, if you already possess a CDL. You will be evaluated on your performance as a professional commercial driver. This evaluation demonstrates to employers that you are capable of driving their equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
