If you’re looking for box truck rental in Michigan, there are a few things you need to know.
Box trucks, also known as straight trucks or cube vans, are chassis cab trucks with box-shaped cargo areas. Box trucks are commercial trucks, but they are highly maneuverable and great for city driving. They are used for many different types of loads, including hauling furniture, parcel delivery, and more. Some people use box trucks when moving or transporting appliances. Our most common customers include greenhouses, seed companies, and beverage companies.
When renting a box truck, there are a few options to choose from:
1. Box Size
Box trucks are typically measured by the size of their cargo area, in feet. With a box truck, the cargo area is referred to as a box, not a bed, as with a flatbed truck.
- 20 feet
- 26 feet
2. Load Weight
Different box trucks are rated for different cargo weights. Obviously, it’s a good idea to be aware of the total weight you’d like to haul. Our 20’ box truck can handle 25,999 lbs, and our 26’ truck can handle 32,000 lbs.
3. CDL, Non-CDL, and Chauffeur’s License
A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required to drive commercial motor vehicles. Some of the box trucks we have available to rent require a CDL.
Additionally, any truck over 10,000 pounds requires a chauffeur’s license. This means that to rent a box truck, you must have a chauffeur’s license at the minimum.
4. Dock Height
If you’re a business, you may want to pull your box truck up to a dock. This means that you’ll want the “dock height”, or the height of the truck bed from the ground, to match your docking area.
Common dock heights are:
- 96 inches
- 102 inches
Chances are, you already know the dock height you’re looking for. If not, just measure the height of the dock off the ground in inches.
