There’s a narrowing road for transportation leaders, as talent shortages and technological advancements refine road safety and product delivery for businesses with diesel trucks. These transportation trends, as noted by FleetOwner, are transforming the industry at an accelerating rate, which fueled our recent expansion with a new location in Plymouth, Mich.
“With such demand among Michigan businesses for a scalable supply of modern diesel trucks and the maintenance that comes along with that, we know increasing our commitment in the greater Detroit area is the right thing to do,” said Tom Bylenga, president of Star Truck Rentals. “We’re continuously optimizing our service for improved access, scalability of vehicle options and maintenance support that swiftly and confidently gets trucks back on the road.”
Star Truck Rentals serves commercial businesses from nearly 20 locations throughout Michigan and Indiana — including Flint, Saginaw and Warren areas since as far back as the late 1980s and now Plymouth since this past January.
Housed in a 12,000 square-foot facility on approximately three acres of land, our newest location at 8801 N. Haggerty Rd. in Plymouth is near the intersection of Haggerty Road and Joy Road and within a mile of Interstate 275.
“This new location enhances our visibility in the community and provides much better customer access logistically, “ said Jim Kennedy, fleet services supervisor of Star Truck Rentals.
Each of the East Michigan locations are owned facilities, accommodating build outs for greater vehicle inventory and increased efficiencies such as dedicated wash bays, full-service fuel islands and convenient customer access. As a full-service transportation partner, each of our locations provide leasing, rental and maintenance for medium to heavy-duty diesel trucks, in addition to the full-line diagnostics and maintenance support needed for current EPA engines and more traditional models.
While many Star Truck Rental locations conduct round-the-clock business hours, the Plymouth and Warren locations are in high-growth mode to stretch toward a 24/7 demand for all services, in addition to our 24-hour emergency services. For up-and-coming diesel technician talent, we’re offering internships, scholarships and tool purchasing assistance. See our careers page for current job openings.
Serving Michigan businesses since the 1860s — when opened by the Star family, and now owned by the Bylenga family for the past 100 years — Star Truck Rentals commercial accounts include several Fortune 500 corporations. Over 50 years ago, we became the first Michigan member within a national organization of independent truck leasing businesses called NationaLease. This affiliation extends road service to our customers well beyond Michigan and Indiana state borders at more than 900 locations across the United States and Canada.
“Helping businesses succeed with their own expansion story is important to us,” continued Bylenga. “We put our customers first by partnering with NationaLease and now CyntrX, a Wisconsin-based technology solutions company supporting the transportation industry’s compliance for electronic logging devices (ELDs).”
With this partnership, Star Truck Rentals offers ELDs but also many more fleet management options. Navigation options include live tracking, live traffic flow and geofencing. Safety features include tracking for hard braking, cornering and acceleration. For an additional fee CyntrX offers Speed Gauge, an application that analyzes road speeds versus actual posted highway speed limits. The system also allows for real time mileage reporting which will be convenient for lease and rental billing. It also offers a way of simplifying fuel tax reporting.
